(Late Night at Tiffany’s)

The school of Dabism tends to focus on luminous landscapes, deep blacks contrasted with glowing color. ASO’s brief moment captures a scene of prosperity and desire, in so many ways contrasting with her overall body of work.
(Tiffany’s) is a study in gray, a world simultaneously as colorless as Kansas in Wizard of Oz. The image is styled after an image in Audrey Hepburn’s “Breakfast at Tiffany’s,” where Hepburn gazes into a Tiffany’s window display. The pale blue of a Tiffany’s gift package dominates the image, its color seems to draw the saturation from the rest of the image. While Holly Golightly is a creature of plenty, the hidden potential of the box holds more weight than her happy society girl life: a quintessential example of the grass being greener on the other side of the plate glass.
