(Love in the Woods)
Found 02/2016, Goodwill (South Lamar and Manchaca)
A metaphor made concrete, the dark and evocative (Love) plays on the idea of “the heart of the woods.” In the gloaming of night, the moon illuminates a chance heart of twisted willow.
The forest of (Love) is oppressive, though we are not oppressed. The gradient of the moon’s glow implies a growing darkness around the viewer. If one turned one’s gaze from the moon and looked around, one could imagine a dark and tangled forest. Upward, though, the woods break, moonlight streams downward, and what was a tangle of bramble becomes a clearing. Love is a light in the darkness: love is hope.
