Red vs Blue

(Red vs Blue)
Found 05/2011, Goodwill (2222 and Lamar)

Fractured brown lines and swirls of smokey gray suggest a catastrophic background, the destruction of a forest or the ruin a demolished village. The anonymous artist concentrates the physical mass of the picture—figures that resemble humans, pieces of metal and glass—in the lower center, deftly balancing the action of the piece with the background, and each deserves attention.

In the foreground, two figures created of painted metal and glass are engaged in conflict. The round shapes and placement of the painted spring resemble shield and sword, medieval or Celtic weaponry and armor. The drama of these two characters plays out against the blasted background imagery, carving a scene of battle out of rough paint and found elements.
